The village of Kumarakom is a cluster of little islands on the Vembanad Lake, and is part of the Kuttanad region. The bird sanctuary here, which is spread across 14 acres is a favorite haunt of migratory birds and is an ornithologist's paradise. Egrets, darters, herons, teal, Water Fowl, cuckoo, Wild Duck and migratory birds like the Siberian Stork are seen here. The very sound of the word Thekkady conjures up images of elephants, unending chains of hills and spice scented plantations. Ride across the Periyar forest of Thekkady, which is one of the finest wildlife reserves in India. The Periyar Widlife sanctuary is spread across 777 sq km, of which 360 sq km is thick evergreen forest, the Periyar Wild Life Sanctuary was declared a Tiger Reserve in 1978. Noted for its geomorphology, diversity of wildlife and scenic beauty, the Reserve attracts visitors all over the world and is one of the world's most fascinating natural wildlife reserves.
Cochin Beach& Jewish Synagogue (Two Hour drive from AnnsHomeStay)
Jewish Synagogue Built in 1568, this is the oldest synagogue in the entire Commonwealth. The Dutch had the structure rebuilt after it was destroyed by Portuguese shelling in 1662. It sports mid-18th century hand-made blue-tinted willow pattern floor tiles (from Canton in China), a clock tower, and some finely wrought gold and silver crowns. Other exhibits include the Great Scrolls of the Old Testament and the famous copper plates containing the privileges granted to the Jewish community by the rulers of old Kochi. Kathakali is the ancient
classical dance from of Kerala which is a grand mix of dramatics,
vocal and instrumental music & dancing. It started in 17th century and is rooted in Hindu mythology.
Kathakali has a unique combination of literature, music, painting, acting and

Kathakali performances and songs by famous Kathakali singers. The Bolgatty Palace, built in 1744 by the Dutch and later taken over by the British, is today a popular hotel run by the Kerala Tourism Development Corporation.
